Alex Jones files bankruptcy petition, says report

Alex Jones, a right-wing conspiracy theorist, reportedly filed for personal Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection on Friday in a Texas court, according to court documents.

US: Infowars host Alex Jones files for personal bankruptcy following Sandy Hook verdict
According to court filings, Alex Jones, the right-wing conspiracy theorist, filed for personal Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in a Texas court on Friday. Jones estimated his assets to be valued between $1 and $10 million and his obligations to be worth between $1 and $10 billion, according to the records. The prominent firm of the Infowars host, Free Speech Systems, also declared bankruptcy in July.

Jones's filing comes after he was unsuccessful in his quest in Texas to minimise the almost $50 million damages judgement handed down by a jury earlier this year for his misleading allegations about the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting.

Following the 2012 mass shooting that killed 26 people, Jones repeatedly claimed that the tragedy was manufactured and that the victims' relatives and first responders were crisis actors. Jones's bankruptcy petition will not work, according to a Connecticut attorney representing Sandy Hook victims' families.

Attorney Christopher Mattei noted that this bankruptcy would fail like every previous cowardly manoeuvre Alex Jones has attempted. The bankruptcy system did not protect Mr Jones because he committed purposeful and flagrant assaults on others. The American legal system will hold Alex Jones accountable, and we will never give up on enforcing the jury's decision.

Jones first lied about the 2012 incident, but he admitted it happened after many lawsuits were filed against him. However, he failed to comply with court orders during the Connecticut and Texas litigation discovery process, resulting in default judgments against him in both states.
