Alabama power outage: More than 50,000 customers in Alabama are without power due to a significant power outage caused by strong storms that brought down trees and power lines. Jefferson County is the hardest hit, with nearly 33,000 outages. Multiple counties report widespread disruptions as crews work to clear roads and restore service.

As of 7:25 a.m. Tuesday, Alabama Power is reporting 45,708 customers are currently without power, and the number continues to rise, as per a report by WBRC.

How widespread are the outages across Alabama?



Jefferson County has been hit hardest, with around 32,956 customers experiencing outages. Several other counties, including Blount, Etowah, St. Clair, Tuscaloosa, and Walker, each report more than 2,000 outages, as per a report by WBRC.

The storms have left crews working nonstop as fallen trees and downed lines create hazardous conditions across the region, as per a report by WBRC.

Travel has also been disrupted, with one road in northern Jefferson County declared impassable as crews work to clear debris and restore access.

In another update, as per a recent filing with the Alabama Public Service Commission (PSC), Alabama Power pledged "rate stability through 2027," stating that it intends to maintain flat electricity rates for the next two years as families in the state struggle with some of the highest power bills in the nation, as per a report by ts2.tech.


The change, which was announced this week and detailed in documents dated November 21, would maintain key rate formulas and use storm reserves and tax credits to offset costs. However, regulatory approval is still pending, and there is no assurance that each customer's monthly bill will remain constant, as per a report by ts2.tech.
