Transgender minors seeking hormone treatment, puberty blockers, and minor gender reassignment surgeries face a terrible situation. The Alabama government passed the bill that puts a ban on healthcare services for transgender youth. The “don't say gay” bill in Alabama has been opposed by the Democratic Party, which argues that it goes against republican principles. In a strong move, Alabama lawmakers have made getting transgender healthcare a felony.

The opposition to the bill was neutered by stating that it is similar to banning minors from getting a tattoo or buying nicotine products. The officials in the favour of the bill also noted that the government always acts in favour of children and helps them to avoid unwanted regrets in their adult life.

The bill also stated that school personnel will inform the parents or the guardian with a “minor’s perception of his/her gender is inconsistent with his/her sex ”

Health care professionals opposed this bill by stating that gender-affirming care saves lives by reducing depression and suicide. Gender reassignment surgery for minors is very rare, one has to undergo a lot of pre-medication and respect before the surgery and is only undertaken in the case of severity.

Various Healthcare communities, including the American Academy of paediatrics, opposed the bill.

The irreversible gender reassignment surgery was banned by Arizona's governor last week.

Leaders from the healthcare industry are giving out strong statements such as “vulnerable people are being targeted overlooking the fact of their physical and mental health care”.

The chief of the American Academy of Pediatrics decried the criminalization of evidence-based medical care.

The American Civil Liberties Union will oppose the bill in the court if it’s signed by Ivey and put into Law.

The bill also prohibits gender-oriented discussions in the classrooms. Transgender rights are in the discussion as one of the key issues in the face of the upcoming midterm elections.

Conservation activists promote the bill as a safeguard for minors and parental rights whereas the Transgender Communities are opposing the bill as an unjust, unfair move against the vulnerable.
