A’ja Wilson’s 34-point night powers Aces past Sparks

A’ja Wilson led the charge with a dominant 34-point performance as the Las Vegas Aces rolled past the Los Angeles Sparks, 89-74, on Tuesday night in LA.

Wilson scored 17 of her game-high total in the first quarter alone, shooting a perfect 8-for-8 from the field to help the Aces (14-13) jump out to a commanding 31-18 lead. She finished with 10 rebounds and logged her fifth 30-point game of the season - and second against the Sparks.



Jackie Young added a historic milestone with her first career triple-double, tallying 18 points, 11 rebounds, and 11 assists. Dana Evans chipped in 10 points as the Aces secured their fifth win in the past seven games.

The Sparks (11-15) had their five-game winning streak snapped despite a strong showing from Kelsey Plum, who scored 22 points and dished out eight assists. Rae Burrell added a season-high 17 points, while Dearica Hamby contributed 15.


Tuesday also marked the long-awaited return of Sparks forward Cameron Brink, who played 14 minutes and scored five points in her first game action since a torn ACL sidelined her for 13 months.

Las Vegas capitalised on LA's 20 turnovers, turning them into 19 points. The Aces shot 56.5 percent in the first quarter and 48.8 percent in the first half to take a 48-34 lead into the break.


Wilson made her first 10 shots before missing midway through the second quarter and had already surpassed her season scoring average (21.6 PPG) with 23 points by halftime.

Las Vegas led 70-53 after three quarters and pushed the margin to 20 early in the fourth. The teams will meet once more on September 11 in the regular-season finale.
