Travel waivers have been issued by major US airlines ahead of what is expected to be a severe "bomb cyclone" of wintry weather in the Midwest and other regions later this week.

As anticipation of the massive 'Bomb Cyclone' has instilled fear in US citizens, several airlines have issued travel waivers to the passengers.

Chicago, a major aviation center, is expected to be among the hardest impacted, with the National Weather Service warning of the possibility of a blizzard.

By Tuesday, United Airlines, based in Chicago issued four distinct winter weather waivers: one each for the Midwest, Texas, East Coast, and for the Central and Northwest United States.

Other major US carriers including American and Southwest had received weather related exemptions as well.

United Airlines have also provided waivers and exemptions to their passengers. In the United Midwest, the passengers who bought tickets by last Saturday for travel between December 21 and 25 will get exemptions. Airports like Chicago O'Hare, Indianapolis, Kansas City, Minneapolis and St. Louis fall in the purview of this waiver. Texas waiver is for customers, who purchased their tickets by December 18 for a journey from December 22 to 25. Austin, Dallas, El Paso and Houston fall under this waiver. East Coast waiver is eligible for passengers, who purchased a ticket by December 18 of this month for travel between December 22 and 25. A total of 50 airports will be covered under this exemption. The same will be applicable in the United Central and Northwest Waiver as well.
