After battling Covid-19 for months, DJ Kay Slay passes away at the age of 55

The famous hip-hop star DJ Kay Slay died on Easter Sunday after being hospitalized with COVID for four months.

The record executive, DJ Kay Slay, died after being in hospital for four months due to corona. Producer Van Silk, who had known Kay since he was 16, confirmed the news, calling him 'my little brother'. Hip Hop lost a real gem,' he told the publication. 'I've known him since he was 16 years old. He was my little brother.'

DJ Kay Slay, whose real name was Keith Grayson, was hospitalized in December and put on a ventilator after being diagnosed with Covid.

The Grayson family paid their tribute to Slay, saying their hearts were broken and that Keith's legacy would always be remembered by future generations for his passion and excellence. The deceased's family thanked everyone for their prayers and wishes and requested some privacy with their tragic loss.


Hot 97, a New York hip-hop radio station, said they were shocked and disheartened by the loss of DJ Kay Slay and would cherish his memories.

DJ Slay was popular amongst his fans for his albums The Soul Controller, Accolades, and The Streetsweeper. New York Times declared Slay as 'Hip Hop's One-Man Ministry of Insults'

Tributes from many celebrities from the industry started coming in after the death of the music star began circulating on social media.

In large numbers, DJ's friends and fans shared condolences, visiting his last post on Instagram and promoting his video for the track In My Soul.

A few days ago, Wack 100 shared that DJ Kay Slay was still fighting the battle with Covid.

Kwame Grayson, Slay's brother, had spoken about his condition in December, saying the star was not well but was recovering.

Before pursuing his interest in music, DJ Slay used to work as a graffiti artist. He was seen in Style Wars, a 1983 documentary on hip-hop.

During an interview with Forbes in 2019, the hip-hop star shared he had never aimed to become a DJ. But after spending some time in prison, he began mixing tapes for some fun.
