Adopt a healthy diet on World No Tobacco Day 2022
Quitting smoking is not easy but extremely necessary. Smoking causes several life-threatening diseases, including cancer and heart failure. Smokers also need to have a healthy diet to minimise the adverse impact of smoking on their bodies.

Quitting smoking comes with a range of benefits, both immediate and long-term. While reduced expenses and bettering of taste buds can be considered immediate positive effects, easy breathing, healthy lungs, and an active lifestyle can be called long-term effects. No doubt, both the effects are immense.
Smoking is associated with several diseases, some of them being life-threatening ones. It decreases the level of good cholesterol and increases bad cholesterol, causing damage to the heart and inviting diseases like stroke, various cancers and osteoporosis.
However, when one quits smoking, their life gets healthier; hence, happier. Quitting smoking also empowers smokers as they gain a better sense of control.
Therefore, World No Tobacco Day is celebrated to share all this precautionary and healthy knowledge with all the smokers and encourage them to get rid of this life-threatening habit.
Smokers can quit smoking by taking some small but decisive steps. The most practical action is a controlled and healthy diet, as smokers need more antioxidants and nutrients than non-smokers. Hence, smokers must focus on nutritious foods to counter the damage caused by smoking.
A good intake of vitamin B 12 is beneficial for smokers because smoking causes deficiency of this vitamin in the body. And lack of Vitamin B 12 results in weakness, heart palpitations, fatigue, and even brain damage. Some good sources of vitamin B 12 are cheese, egg, yoghurt, milk, and fortified cereal.
Eating cruciferous vegetables like broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, radish, etc., is also crucial for smokers. Cruciferous vegetables are highly beneficial in eliminating the development and growth of cancerous cells caused by smoking.
Besides, a proper intake of vitamin A, C, D and E is equally important for smokers. While vitamin A reduces the risk of lung cancer, vitamin C neutralises the free radicals created by smoking. Vitamin D decreases the chances of osteoporosis, and Vitamin E protects the heart's health from the harmful effects of tobacco.
On World Tobacco day, Let's take a pledge to adopt a healthy lifestyle.
