Raquel Welch, a US actor who is frequently recognized for establishing the role of the contemporary action heroine in Hollywood movies, passed away at the age of 82. The star passed away peacefully on Wednesday morning after a brief illness, according to her management.
In the 1960s, Welch rose to fame as a worldwide icon owing to her role as a bikini-clad cavewoman in the 1966 movie One Million Years B.C. The divorced mother of two worked as both a model and a cocktail waiter for Neiman Marcus during a quick trip to Dallas, Texas. In 1974, she received a Golden Globe for The Three Musketeers.
Welch, who was born Jo-Raquel Tejada in 1940, grew up in California, where she competed in and won adolescent beauty pageants before working as a local weather forecaster.
In her biography Raquel: Beyond the Cleavage, Welch continued to confront her image. There, she talked about her upbringing, her struggles as a young single mother in Hollywood, and why she would never lie about her age.
