Aaron Rodgers injury update: Setback for Green Bay Packers as star quarterback left game against Philadelphia Eagles

The reigning NFL MVP and starting quarterback for Green Bay, Aaron Rodgers continued bending and groaning while being in pain. The injury forced Rodgers to depart the game in a loss to the Eagles. He's not quite ready to call the season over yet.

Aaron Rodgers declared that "As long as we are mathematically alive, I'd like to be out there." Late in the third quarter, Rodgers suffered rib injuries in addition to his broken right thumb from a few weeks earlier. In a 40-33 loss to Philadelphia on Sunday night, Rodgers completed 11 of 16 passes for 140 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions.

Will Rodgers miss a lot, if any, of the game now?

In order to predict if Aaron Rodgers would be fit to play against Chicago on Sunday, Green Bay coach Matt LaFleur claimed it was still too early. Matt LaFleur replied that they would need to talk more before they ever go into it. He added that he would anticipate him being out there as long as he is able to go.

The 39-year-old Rodgers expressed concern about a ruptured lung as well. The worry was unfounded, but Rodgers said additional testing will be required on Monday to determine the extent of the rib injuries. He said that the agony was hard and he found it difficult to breathe or move his upper body.

But he anticipated playing. The Packers (4-8) have little to play for and might bench Rodgers to get a better look at backup Jordan Love, who they selected in the first round of the 2020 draught. Love's 63-yard catch-and-run touchdown with Christian Watson in the fourth quarter trimmed Philadelphia's advantage to 37-30. 6 of 9 passes were completed for 113 yards.

Rodgers, who has already played the past few weeks despite having a broken right thumb, looked uncomfortable during a third-quarter drive that resulted in a field goal for the Packers. Only a few brief throws were tried by Rodgers, who grimaced as he released the ball. When it became clear that Rodgers could not actually throw in the third quarter, LaFleur claimed he was ready to call a pass play.

Rodgers sustained a thumb injury on October 9 in the final play of the Packers' 27-22 loss to the New York Giants in London when a Hail Mary attempt was unsuccessful. Since then, the Packers have reported Rodgers as having a thumb ailment, but the four-time MVP has not publicly acknowledged that it is broken until this week.
