Yankees fan struck by falling concrete during Dodgers game—investigation underway as safety concerns mount at aging Dodger Stadium
A New York Yankees fan visiting Dodger Stadium on Friday night(May 30) reported being struck by a falling piece of concrete during the third inning of the game against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The fan, Ricardo Aquino from Mexico City, was seated in Section 10, located between home plate and first base, when he felt a sudden impact on his back. Aquino held up a sizable chunk of debris, which he believed had fallen from the stadium's upper deck.

Fellow spectators’ comments

Fellow spectators corroborated Aquino's account. Jessica Coria, who was seated in front of him, initially thought someone had thrown an object but realized the concrete had fallen from above. Another fan, Lewis Loy, expressed concern over the incident, noting the potential danger to other attendees, including children.

Medical attention

Aquino received medical attention at the stadium and returned to his seat with an ice pack. His friend, Alvaro Baeza, translated for him, stating that while Aquino was in pain, he did not sustain any bleeding injuries.

The Los Angeles Dodgers acknowledged the incident, stating, "We are aware of the report. We cannot comment further until we have all the information, which we are currently collecting."

In response to the event, the Dodgers installed protective netting over the area in Section 10 where the concrete reportedly fell. This measure aims to prevent similar incidents and ensure fan safety.

Dodger Stadium, opened in 1962, is Major League Baseball's third-oldest ballpark. Despite renovations over the years, including significant updates completed in 2021, the stadium's age has raised concerns about structural integrity.

The game continued after the incident, with the Dodgers overcoming a 5-2 deficit to defeat the Yankees 8-5. However, the focus remains on ensuring the safety and well-being of all fans attending events at the historic venue.
