In their recent discovery, the 800-1000 AD tomb contained an impressive collection of gold objects, such as pectoral plates, bracelets, and earrings.

So,these animals were important in the pre-Hispanic period, most likely because they were associated with power, protection, and spirituality.

Researchers say that bats were associated with night and transformation, while crocodiles were associated with power and domination of water environments.
