The geopolitical tensions between Ukraine and Russia is reaching a new high yet again, with the latest killing of Gen. Igor Kirillov of the Russian forces worsening the situation. The military general lost his life in a bomb blast that was meant to assassinate him, reportedly by Ukraine's security service, which is known as SBU.

An official of SBU has even claimed responsibility that their unit was behind this bombing, that took the life of the military general who was overseeing Russia's special nuclear and chemical warfare projects, and their security.

Kirillov succumbed to his injuries after a bomb planted inside a scooter exploded near him on Tuesday, when he was passing nearby a residential building in Moscow. The incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, and just the day before, Ukraine had accused the General of indulging in criminal activity through the extensive use of banned chemical weapons in Ukraine, according to a New York Times report.

Meanwhile, top Russian officials, including a member of the Russian Security Council has stated that necessary retaliation of this killing will be taken against the military and political leadership of Ukraine. With this latest incident, the tensions between Russia and Ukraine have now stretched to new highs, with he chances of diplomatic talks becoming slim with each passing day.
