Setting and Timeline

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is set about 90 years before the events of Game of Thrones. This places it roughly a century before House of the Dragon. During this time, the Targaryen dynasty still controls the Iron Throne. The series will feature characters from this bloodline, including a protagonist who is a descendant of the Targaryens.

Plot

The series is based on three novellas by George R.R. Martin, known as the ‘Dunk and Egg’ stories. These tales have been collected in the book A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. The first season of the show will adapt the first novella. It will tell the story of how Ser Duncan the Tall (Dunk) and Aegon V Targaryen (Egg) became companions. They first met at a tournament in Ashford Meadow, where Dunk became a hedge knight and Egg joined him as his squire. Their initial adventure together takes them to Dorne, a location familiar to Game of Thrones fans.
