What did Donald Trump say about his son?
During his remarks, Trump spoke about a golf property in Ireland set to host a major tournament. While doing so, he made a surprising aside about his son.
"We're going to have the Irish Open at a property that happens to be owned by yours truly, but I have nothing to do with it," he said, before adding, "I own it, but I don't even like to talk to my own son."
He continued with a story about phone calls from Eric Trump. "He says, 'Dad, we're doing great,'" Trump said, prompting laughter from the audience. "I'm allowed to. I'm allowed to run it, but I don't choose to. 'Dad, we're doing great.' Eric calls up," Trump said.
"He's doing a good job," he added, describing how his son keeps him updated on the family business. To which Trump claimed he replied, "Don't tell me about it, I don't want to know about it."
Social media extensively engaged with the footage. "The only true statement that has ever come out of Trump’s mouth,” one individual chuckled. "I mean, none of us do either. Doesn't matter which one," someone added.
"Yeah, I can't blame him there ... I'd choose root canal or dinner with my mother-in-law over talking to ANY of the Trump sons," another person said, as per a report by The Mirror.

Why were Ireland and Doonbeg mentioned?
Trump also told Irish Prime Minister Micheál Martin that Rory McIlroy “loves” the resort.
When asked whether he would attend the event in Ireland, he did not give a direct answer but said, "Everybody wants me to be there, we're going to try, we are going to try, it would be an honor."

What else is happening around the golf resort?
The spotlight on the Doonbeg property comes amid other developments. An investigation was launched in January after a suspicious package was delivered to the resort. Authorities, including An Garda Síochána and Ireland’s Defence Forces’ Explosive Ordnance Disposal team, responded to the incident.
"The package was subsequently deemed safe and the cordon has been lifted," a Garda spokesperson said, adding that investigations remain ongoing, as per a report by The Mirror.
Eric Trump had been at the hotel around that time, staying there after arriving in Dublin. Reports later noted that he left early and traveled to Davos, Switzerland, for the World Economic Forum.
The resort has previously faced security concerns, including a past bomb threat that also led to a police response. Trump’s remarks, delivered in a casual tone, may have been intended as humor, but they have nonetheless drawn attention.
