The shooting took place around 12:15 AM in Bath Township, roughly 15 miles northwest of Akron. According to the nonpartisan Gun Violence Archive, as reported by The Guardian, Sunday’s incident was among at least 365 mass shootings - defined as cases involving four or more victims - that have occurred across the US so far this year.
In a press conference, Police Chief Vito Sinopoli said the extent of the victims’ injuries remained uncertain. He added that while nine people were hurt, it wasn’t yet confirmed if all had been shot, noting one person’s leg injury may have resulted from a fall.

Sinopoli recalled a similar incident in 2017, when a shooting at another Airbnb rental in the town left one person injured with a gunshot wound to the leg.

According to ABC News, the shooting occurred just days after Airbnb announced the rollout of its AI-driven 'anti-party' technology across the US and Canada, aimed at curbing Halloween-night gatherings. The company said its machine-learning system flags and blocks bookings that pose potential party risks based on factors such as reservation length, property type, distance from the guest’s home, and last-minute timing.
Airbnb released a statement on Sunday stating it has banned all 'unauthorized and disruptive gatherings' and has suspended the listing involved, along with the account of the renter. The company noted that since implementing its global party ban in 2020, it has recorded a 50% drop in reported parties across its platform.
