Moore, drafted in the second round in 2022, has struggled to find consistency in his first three seasons. Over 36 career games, he has tallied 43 receptions for 494 yards and one touchdown.
Injuries derailed his 2024 campaign, as he failed to record a single catch due to a core muscle issue. Still, he has shown flashes of promise, including a touchdown reception in Kansas City’s Super Bowl LVII win over Philadelphia and, more recently, an 88-yard punt return for a score in a preseason game against Seattle.
San Francisco’s receiver depth chart is currently in turmoil. Brandon Aiyuk remains sidelined until at least Week 6 while recovering from major knee surgery.
Fellow starter Jauan Jennings has missed most of training camp with a calf injury. Head coach Kyle Shanahan also confirmed this week that Demarcus Robinson is facing a three-game suspension, pending appeal, after pleading no contest to a misdemeanor DUI charge in July.
The 49ers’ struggles extend beyond their top options. Rookie Jordan Watkins is sidelined with a high ankle sprain, while second-year receiver Jacob Cowing has been hampered by a hamstring injury since the start of camp. Cowing briefly returned to practice last week but aggravated the injury on Tuesday and was held out again Wednesday.
Moore’s addition provides San Francisco with much-needed depth and special teams potential as the regular season approaches.
