40-year-old Cleveland man held for killing firefighter in hit-and-run case

On Sunday morning, a 40-year-old Cleveland man was detained in a hit-and-run case, where a fireman was killed.

On Saturday night, a 40-year-old Cleveland man was detained after reportedly hitting and killing a fireman from the state with his automobile on I-90 East. A firefighter was aiding crews with a rollover collision at 8:15 p.m. when a car went past the emergency cars and struck the firefighter.

The motorist did not stop and departed the area at great speed, according to the Bratenahl Village Police Department. Cleveland Police reported at 8 a.m. Sunday that the Bratenahl Village Police Department had apprehended a suspect in connection with the hit-and-run. The suspect's car was described as a white 2004 or 2005 Chevy Malibu with damage to the front end and a missing bumper. Cleveland police asked anyone who saw the vehicle to contact them.

The fireman was alive during the journey to University Hospitals, according to Cleveland EMS, but died shortly after.
