3 killed, person of interest detained in North Carolina shooting

Three people were killed and eight others were injured in a shooting at the Southport Yacht Basin in North Carolina, authorities confirmed as reported by 6 WECT News. A person of interest has also been detained as law enforcement continues investigating the incident.

A spokesperson for the City of Southport confirmed that three people were killed when gunfire erupted at the Southport Yacht Basin Saturday night. The condition of the eight others who were injured has not yet been released.

According to multiple media reports, witnesses say the boat involved in the Southport shooting was a 23-foot single-engine outboard with a dog on board. The boat reportedly pulled up to the American Fish Company restaurant, fired into the crowd, and then fled away from the scene.


The Southport Yacht Basin, along the Intracoastal Waterway, is home to several bars and restaurants, including American Fish Company.

According to CBS17.com, the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office posted a short update at 10:43 p.m. on social media regarding the situation.

“The Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office is assisting the City of Southport Police Department, along with multiple law enforcement agencies throughout the county,” the sheriff’s office said. “Please keep all those affected, as well as our first responders, in your thoughts and prayers.”
