After '3 Body Problem' remained at the top of Netflix’s TV chart for three weeks and remained among its global Top 10 for seven weeks, the streaming platform planned to return with the series. It was also critically acclaimed and it received 80% and 70% critic and audience scores respectively on Rotten Tomatoes. It is clear that after the first eight-episode season, the second season is coming. Not only this, there may be more than two seasons. Netflix announced last week that “additional episodes” of the acclaimed sci-fi drama will be made to “finish the story.”

'3 Body Problem': Many more seasons

Talking to 'The Hollywood Reporter', showrunners David Benioff, Dan Weiss and Alexander Woo made it clear that there will be many more seasons, not just one season. It may take many more episodes to finish Liu Cixin’s two remaining novels in his Hugo-winning trilogy. It is not yet clear how many seasons, but “additional episodes” could be from two episodes to five seasons.

Seven years

Weiss said, "We knew going into this how many hours we need to tell the rest of the story because we’ve got a roadmap through to the end." Benioff told 'The Hollywood Reporter' that by the time he would finish with the show, it would be seven years. He also said that he is at a place where he gets to tell the rest of the story, the way he wants to and that’s immensely gratifying.

Liu Cixin's indelible trilogy

Earlier, Benioff also said that Liu Cixin created the indelible trilogy and the books just get better for him. He said further that the second book was far better than the first, and the third book just completely blew his mind. The showrunner added further that the story just gets more and more ambitious as it goes, and it takes a huge leap in book two.
