St. Patrick's Day Parade is undoubtedly one of New York's oldest traditions. Moreover, it just doesn't end here - it is also oldest one of the oldest parades in the world. First began with celebrations in NYC in 1762 - the tradition continues for the 262nd time.
Earlier on Friday, barricades were being placed by officers along Fifth Avenue in Manhattan in anticipation of the crowds. Prior to the commencement of the parade, Cardinal Dolan presided over a Mass held at St. Patrick's Cathedral.
A significant number of street closures are in effect, with closures beginning at 10 am Vehicles and bicycles will not be permitted on Fifth Avenue from 42nd Street to 86th Street and all cross streets within parade route. The parade started at 11 am with approximately 150,000 individuals marching up Fifth Avenue. It is set to conclude by 4:30 pm.

According to organizers, this year's parade is raising funds for Catholic Charities, City Harvest, and City Meals on Wheels, which aim to provide better access to food for individuals in need. The parade route was graced by the presence of Mayor Eric Adams, Governor Kathy Hochul, and various other politicians, as well as bands, mounted police, and numerous organizations.
On Thursday, Mayor Adams praised the contributions made by the Irish to the city, including their involvement in building the Brooklyn Bridge, the subway system, and joining the police force and other civil service professions. Many groups, such as the Port Authority Pipes and Drums, performed during the parade, with some even offering preview performances in advance.
