Is Donald Trump using religion, Christianity, and its symbols including the holy Bible to win the 2024 US Presidential Election? After releasing a video on his Truth Social platform urging his supporters to buy the "God Bless the USA Bible", the former US President now tends to finish his rallies on a solemn note. According to the 'New York Times', Trump's tone turns reverent and somber, prompting some supporters to bow their heads or close their eyes.

Trump invokes God at political rally

In a rally held at Conway, the presumptive Republican nominee said, "We will pray to God for our strength and our liberty. We will pray for God and we will pray with God. We are one movement, one people, one family, and one glorious nation under God."

Evangelical voters back Trump

But while Trump is eager to maintain the support of evangelical voters and portray his presidential campaign as a battle for the nation's soul, he has mostly been careful not to speak directly in messianic terms.

Trump compared to Jesus

In an interesting development last year, Trump's close ally Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene said both the former president and Jesus had been arrested by "radical, corrupt governments." Last Saturday, Trump shared an article on social media with the headline "The Crucifixion of Donald Trump."

Though Donald Trump won an overwhelming majority of evangelical voters in his first two presidential elections, no one compares him to Jesus. He is seen as a modern version of Old Testament heroes like Cyrus or David, morally flawed figures hand-picked by God to lead profound missions aimed at achieving overdue justice or resisting existential evil.

Advantage over Joe Biden

Trump's solid and devoted core of voters has formed one of the most durable forces in U.S. politics and given him a clear advantage over President Joe Biden.

Only 23% of Democrats said they were enthusiastic about Biden as their nominee, and 43% were satisfied but not enthusiastic.
