As Ryan Gosling told Emily Blunt he was happy that the two stars could finally put this 'Barbenheimer' rivalry aside," Blunt said that the way this award season turned out, there wasn’t that much of a rivalry.

The "Barbenheimer" rivalry came to the stage of the 2024 Academy Awards ceremony as actors Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt playfully roasted each other while presenting a special tribute to stunt performers. Both were nominated for supporting actor Oscars this year, Blunt for "Oppenheimer" and Gosling for "Barbie".

It began with Gosling telling Blunt that he is happy that the two stars could finally put this 'Barbenheimer' rivalry aside." Replying to this, Blunt said that the way this award season turned out, there wasn’t that much of a rivalry.

Blunt said, "Thanks for Ken-splaining that to me." As Gosling pretended to be offended, Blunt said, "Mr. ‘I need to paint my abs on to get nominated!’"

She talked about how Christopher Nolan's "Oppenheimer" dominated the awards season with several wins for best picture, from the Golden Globes to the BAFTA Film Awards.

Gosling also said, "But I think I kind of figured out why it's called 'Barbenheimer' and not 'Oppenarbie'. You're on the tail end because you rode 'Barbie's' coattails all summer."

Gosling was referring to the fact that "Barbie" grossed $1.4 billion at the worldwide box office. With this, Gerwig's blockbuster comedy became the highest-grossing film of 2023. "Oppenheimer" collected more than $960 million worldwide.

Both 'Barbie' and 'Oppenheimer' hit the screens on the same day, July 21, 2023. While 'Barbie' is a frothy, 'pink' comedy, 'Oppenheimer' is a dour, serious biopic of the father of the atomic bomb. Gosling and Blunt both lost the Best Supporting nominations. While Blunt lost the award to Da’Vine Joy Randolph ('The Holdovers') Gosling lost to Robert Downey Jr. ('Oppenheimer').
