2024 Grammy Awards: Pro-Palestine protest near venue, Annie Lennox appeals for Gaza Ceasefire

Pro-Palestine protests took place on Sunday near the venue of the 66th Grammy Awards in Los Angeles. People carrying Palestinian flags and Free Palestine signs raised slogans while they marched to Crypto.com Arena. Know in detail.

Protesters demanding a ceasefire in the Hamas-Israel War gathered outside the Crypto.com Arena in downtown Los Angeles and blocked the people from reaching the venue. According to 'Variety', the demonstrators carried Palestinian flags and Free Palestine signs, they stood at street corners at checkpoints, stopping the attendees of the 2024 Grammy Awards from making their way into the ceremony. Raising slogans, they marched to the north crosswalk of S. Figueroa St. on the intersection with Venice Blvd. and blocked the drop-off access to the show.

The Party for Socialism and Liberation posted pictures of protest on social media platforms with the hashtag #ShutItDown4Palestine. Talking about the protest, it wrote on the social media platform that hundreds participated in the Los Angeles rally and they marched to reach outside the Grammy Awards for Palestine. It also said it rained, but a little rain won’t deter the movement.

However, there was no impact on the Grammy red carpet event as the people arrived amid the rain and strong winds.


"Artists for ceasefire"

The 'Variety' also reported that after paying rich tribute to singer Sinead O'Connor during a lengthy in-memoriam segment, Annie Lennox raised her hand and said, "Artists for a ceasefire, peace in the world."

Israel launched an attack on the Gaza Strip and bombed targets including hospitals and refugee shelters killing more than 28,000 people in response to the Hamas attack on Israel in which about 1,200 people were killed. Hamas and Israel are reportedly working on a possible ceasefire through third-party mediations. They have not reached a ceasefire agreement.
