Szymon Marciniak, the Polish referee who officiated the FIFA World Cup final between Argentina and France, has confessed that he made a mistake in the World Cup final match. There has been a huge outcry among French fans protesting against the referee’s decisions after Argentina’s win in the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Marciniak, 41, said that although he did not make any ‘big mistake’ in the game, there are some decisions that he could have made differently. He said that he interrupted a french counter-attack after the bad tacket by Macros Acuna. Marciniak said he was afraid that the fouled player wanted to unwind, and he read it wrong as nothing happened. She said that he could have given an advantage in that situation.

Marciniak is the first Polish referee to officiate in a FIFA World Cup final. He came as the replacement after the English referee Anthoney Taylor was barred from officiating the match over concerns of bias. Many football fans have lauded Marciniak for doing an excellent job in such a big match. But he is also facing great criticism from the french fans.

The French fans and media are criticizing him for allowing the extra time goal of Messey as Argentina players broke the FIFA rule when three extra players entered the ground. However, Marciniak has fought back against the claims. He showed a screenshot of seven french players standing on the pitch. The French fans are signing a petition for replaying the final match.

The match officiating by Marciniak has been largely applauded. The minor mistake that he discussed might not have affected the outcomes of the match. The petition of the French players is going to have little outcome as there is not much base to their claims.
