2 injured in shooting at Auto Parts Store in Newington, 1 accused arrested

In a shooting at the O’Reilly Auto Parts store on Berlin Turnpike, two employees, a man, and a woman sustained multiple gunshot wounds and were transferred to a local hospital. Details on their conditions are yet to be determined.

The suspect has been identified as Sherod Aldon Hackett, a 24-year-old man from Montville who fled after committing the crime. The authorities began a manhunt for the suspect in the surrounding towns, making use of K9 units and aerial drones. The adjacent road, Route 5, was partly shut during the investigation.

NBC Connecticut reported that the police officials arrested a man on Sunday around 9 pm, who they claim was the prime suspect.




Police dispatchers received multiple reports of a “suspicious man” roaming in a neighbourhood near the crime scene. On investigation, the reported man matched Hackett’s description and was nabbed subsequently.

The suspect had sustained injuries himself and was transferred to the hospital following his arrest. Reports claim that the arrested man would be presented before the court after being released from the hospital and was held under a $1.5 million bond. However, charges for the suspect weren’t finalized yet.
