2-hour lockdown at Northwestern Hospital due to threat call

Sunday was different for the Northwestern Hospital at 251 E. Huron St. At around 8.40 p.m. the hospital received a threatening phone call. Following this, the hospital authorities decided to inform the concerned authorities. Within minutes the hospital was surrounded by large police teams, fire departments, and the SWAT teams.

While the authorities conducted their required search, the patients, nurses, and doctors had to sit out the two hours in the hospital, praying for everything to be alright. They looked out of their windows at the chaos outside caused by a phone call. The patients were accompanied in their rooms by a nurse and the doors were bolted.

The SWAT team and the other teams present swept and searched the entire building for anything which seemed out of normal. Finally, at around 10.40 p.m. an all-clear was given by the authorities. This relieved everyone and finally, the hospital resumed its services and normal proceedings. People were baffled at the scenario they got to witness firsthand. It wasn't a normal Sunday for anyone at the Northwestern Hospital.


As soon as an "armed intruder alert" was generated, prompt actions were taken by the police force and the SWAT team was able to keep at bay whatever harm that was supposed to come. The authorities made sure before leaving that all kinds of public safety norms were maintained and checked. All personnel present in the building were also accounted for.

No further details were available about who made the call and why they did so. But it was the quick thinking on part of the hospital authorities which might have prevented a mishap from taking place. The immediate response and collaborative effort of the SWAT teams, police force, and the fire department is also commendable. Everything got back to normal after the 2-hour lockdown.
