Kerberos was a passenger steamship travelling from Britain to America in 1899 at the turn of the century. Out of the wild, the ship's crew spot another ship lost at sea and moves towards it to help out anyone who needs it.
The story is about this encounter between the lost ship, its passengers, and the travellers on Kerberos. The truth of what it is about is revealed at the end of the 8th episode.
In the 8th episode of ‘1899’, Elliot is about to trap a green bug whom he names Alfred. His mother, Maura, tells Elliot to set the bug free so it can live naturally. When Elliot listens to his mother and sets the bug free, he comes up against a pyramid. Elliot meets Henry, who says he can reveal the truth to him and takes Elliot through his memory to the hospital. Maura had given birth to Elliot in that hospital, and the latter realised that he was a digital version of Maura's son and his human form was probably dead.
The viewer is immersed in chaos for different reasons by the storyteller. The viewer experiences frequent shifts between reality and the maze. The viewer realises that all the characters are simulations created by Maura and all the passengers realise that they never boarded the ship but happened to be there.
The scenes keep shifting around and show Elliot approaching room 1011 with Henry, who administers a drug on Elliot. Elliot then sees a view of the passengers of the ship. The passengers soon realise they are in a spaceship called Prometheus, and the year is 2099. Once the viewer goes through the series, he realises that all these situations that Elliot experiences are simulations of various characters and instances, and someone is thinking them all up. He realises then that Maura, his mother, might be a simulation. There must have been some reason human beings have begun to live that way. The reality is that every character is actually in a real-world and their bodies are preserved there. The simulations occur in the brain of these characters, and somehow, they manage to communicate with each other in that subconscious state. Maura is welcomed back to the real world towards the end of the final episode.
