18-Year-Old New Yorker sets Guinness World Record for highest tennis ball catch

A 18-year-old New Yorker Cameron Heinig has shattered a Guinness World Record by catching a tennis ball dropped from a drone hovering at an altitude of 469.5 feet.

Cameron, alongside his friend Julian, a skilled drone pilot, embarked on a two-year journey to establish a new record for the highest tennis ball catch. Their determination and persistence were evident as they committed to their ambitious goal.



During their first summer of attempts, success remained elusive, with the tennis ball consistently slipping through Cameron's grasp. However, undeterred by these initial setbacks, the duo returned the following summer with an innovative approach. They introduced a baseball glove into their practice sessions, which turned out to be a game-changing move.

As Cameron honed his barehanded catching skills, he eventually decided to take on the challenge without the safety of the glove, despite his initial concerns about potential pain.

The official record attempt did encounter a brief delay due to a technical issue. A surveyor enlisted to measure the drone's height determined it was too small for precise measurement. To resolve this, the drone underwent modifications, including the addition of a reflector to ensure accurate measurements.

On the day of the official attempt, Cameron successfully caught the tennis ball on his third try. The surveyor confirmed that the ball had been released from a staggering height of 469.5 feet, surpassing the previous record by a remarkable 75.4 feet.
