Starbucks is introducing a major workplace and payment update that could make a noticeable difference for both employees and customers. Beginning this summer, the coffee giant will roll out a new bonus structure for store staff along with a shift in how often they are paid.

What is the new Starbucks bonus program?

Starbucks is rolling out a new compensation program that could benefit not only its employees but also the customers they serve every day. The move is expected to improve service speed, staff morale, and overall customer experience at stores across the US. With bonuses tied directly to sales and service goals, customers may soon notice friendlier, faster service during their daily coffee runs, as per a report by The US Sun.

Starting in July, baristas and shift supervisors will become eligible for quarterly bonuses of up to $300. Over the course of a year, that adds up to as much as $1,200 in extra earnings.

The bonuses will be awarded when individual locations meet or exceed targets related to sales performance, operational standards, and customer service goals. This means employees now have a stronger incentive to focus on faster service and improved customer interactions.

As a result, customers visiting Starbucks may notice happier staff members and smoother service, particularly during busy morning hours, as per a report by The US Sun.

Another major shift begins in August, when Starbucks moves all staff to a weekly pay schedule instead of the current twice-monthly system.

The company estimates that eligible employees could see their pay rise by an average of 5% to 8% because of the combined changes. Starbucks said the overall compensation package for hourly roles is valued at around $30 per hour on average.

At unionized stores, which account for around 5% of US locations, the new program will still need to go through collective bargaining, as per a report by The US Sun.

What will customers notice in stores?

Customers are also getting a direct benefit. Starbucks will now allow tipping through mobile app orders and when customers use the app to scan and pay at the register.

This added convenience is likely to make digital payments easier while giving customers another way to reward strong service.

The company also said it will soon share more details about a leadership training initiative aimed at filling 90% of retail leadership roles from within, further strengthening store operations and customer experience.
