Kim Kardashian has once again captured the internet's attention by recreating her iconic 2014 Paper Magazine cover at a recent Skims Christmas party, a moment that famously "broke the internet." This nostalgic homage comes exactly ten years after the original shoot, which was photographed by renowned artist Jean-Paul Goude. The original cover, which featured Kardashian in a pose that was both daring and iconic, literally "broke the internet" with its display of celebrity and art.

The recreation

On Saturday, Kardashian shared the new images on her social media platforms, showcasing a playful and bold reinterpretation of her original cover. The new photos maintain the provocative spirit of the original while adding a festive twist, as she posed in a striking red ensemble that aligns with the holiday season.

Kim posted photos from her Skims party on Instagram, including recreating the champagne pose. She was using a mobility scooter due to having broken her foot recently. The recreation was more modest compared to the original, keeping it PG-rated. Kim's sister Khloe commented that Kim's red dress "was the gift that keeps on giving".

The images, shared on Instagram, show her with a glass balanced on her posterior, echoing the original shoot's audaciousness but with a holiday flair. Fans and followers were quick to recognize the homage, with many commenting on the nostalgia and the enduring impact of the original cover.

The past

Back in November 2014, Paper Magazine cover featured not one, but two provocative images of Kardashian. One depicted her balancing a champagne glass on her oiled backside, a playful recreation of Goude's earlier work known as the "Champagne Incident." The other was a full-frontal pose, which together pushed boundaries and sparked endless discussions across social media platforms. Within hours of its release, the cover became a viral sensation, generating millions of page views and sparking countless memes, parodies, and think pieces. It became one of the most talked-about magazine covers in recent history, solidifying Kardashian's status as a cultural icon.

At the time, Kim was newly married to Kanye West and had just given birth to her first child North. The photoshoot aimed to showcase Kim's postpartum weight loss. The accompanying text called Kim "the only person who can break the internet" due to her massive online influence.
