US govt would consider investing up to six billion dollars in automaker Chrysler after a 30-day period to help its partnership with Italian Fiat.

WASHINGTON: The US goverment would consider investing up to six billion dollars in automaker Chrysler after a 30-day period to help its partnership with Italian Fiat, the White House task force on the auto industry said Monday.

The panel said in a report the administration will provide Chrysler with working capital for 30 days in order to try to conclude an agreement with Fiat and secure the support of necessary stakeholders.

"If successful, the government will consider investing up to the additional 6 billion dollars requested by Chrysler to help this partnership succeed," the report said. "If an agreement is not reached, the government will not invest any additional taxpayer funds in Chrysler."
