The accident occurred in August 2021 in Ohio's Sandusky. Cedar Point took to Facebook to announce that the rollercoaster will not reopen.

The world's second tallest rollercoaster has been closed since the accident. The statement from the theme park said the Top Thrill Dragster, the first strata coaster in the world, will retire after exciting 18 million riders and 19 years in operation. However, the team at Cedar Point would continue with its innovation and create new rides with a reimagined experience.

Strata Coasters
A rollercoaster with a height of 400-499 feet is called a strata coaster. The Top Thrill complete-circuit rollercoaster accelerated to 120mph from 0 in fewer than 4 seconds. The rollercoaster opened in 2003, and the only other strata coaster launched in New Jersey a couple of years later.
