ITV and BBC went into a competition publicly to decide who would get the most views for the France v/s Argentina World Cup.

Sensational numbers for last night’s World Cup Final classic. 14.9 million on @BBCOne and 7.1 million streams on @BBCiPlayer and online. That makes 22 million by my reckoning on BBC. Thank you for choosing us. 🙌🏻

Qatar played host to the Football World Cup Final. BBC and ITV both live-streamed content directly from the Lusail Stadium. Billions of viewers tuned in to watch the most remarkable World Cup win in history.
Viewers watching the live stream wanted to watch every single move of both teams. So, BBC and ITV were both continuously broadcasting. Up to the semi-finals, both the channels came to a mutual agreement that they would divide the matches between them so both of them could earn similar profits. But in the final, they decided to settle the debate once and for all. Both the channels live-streamed continuously to get the greatest number of viewers.
On the day of the final match, Broadcasters Audience Research Board (BARB) was monitoring the viewer count for each channel. Clearly, the BBC took the win. The win was iconic as 14.9 million viewers tuned in to BBC while only 4.4 million tuned in to ITV.
Gary Lineker was the BBC host for the Final match. He tweeted the next day, highlighting BBC's iconic win. He said that besides the 14.9 million viewers on BBCOne, they also got 7.1 million viewers on BBCiPlayer. This makes the total BBC views 22 million for the day.
