Jemma Mitchell found guilty of killing & decapitating her friend over money

In June 2021, the headless body of Mee Kuen Chong was found near a woodland path in Salcombe. Now, over a year later, Jemma Mitchell was found guilty of killing Mee Kuen Chong to inherit thousands of pounds.

Row over money turned deadly

The 37-year-old alternative therapist Jemma Mitchell killed and dumped the headless body of Mee Kuen, almost 200 miles away in Devon.




She hit Mee Chong in the head at her London home and dumped the body near Devon.
The prosecution found that Jemma Mitchell planned to murder and impersonate the victim to inherit Mee Chong’s money and the majority of the estate worth more than £700,000.

The badly decapitated body was found in Salcombe woods almost two weeks after the victim's death in June last year.

Initially, Jemma Mitchell denied having to do anything with her friend's death. She even declined to give evidence during the trial at Old Bailey.

Later the investigation uncovered CCTV footage that showed Jemma Mitchell visiting Mee Chong's home with a large suitcase. Mitchell was allegedly carrying her murder weapon in that suitcase on the morning of the murder. More than four hours later, she got out of Mee Chong’s home with the suitcase looking bulkier than when she had arrived. The CCTV footage showed Mitchell struggling to carry the suitcase.

The prosecution has suggested that Jemma Mitchell hid the remaining parts of the victim's body in her house in Willesden, which she shared with her retired mother. Police Detective Jim Eastwood described the case as a “truly despicable crime”.
