Winter Love Island contestants will not be allowed to have active social media accounts when they will be staying in the villa, media reports said citing new duty of care guidelines shared by ITV.
According to the channel, the contestants will also not be allowed to handover the control of their accounts of different platforms like Instagram, Twitter, etc to a friend or a family member as was the case in the previous years. This comes as the new series of Winter Love Island will get launched later this month.
In order to protect the Islanders and their families from the adverse effects of social media, the contestants will have to pause their social media platforms accounts for the duration of their time on the show. The accounts of sites, such as Instagram, Twitter, etc, will remain dormant while they will be staying in the villa. This will ensure that nothing is published on their behalf, the guidelines said.
The move seems to have been taken by the channel due to criticism that had occurred last year when a Love Island contestant Davide Sanclimenti's friends made a "heat of the moment" post. They had also apologized for it later.
