On the occasion of the 75th Edinburgh Film Festival, Scottish filmmakers' debut film, "A Cat Called Dom", won the Powell and Pressburger Award, while "Winners" by Hassan Nazer bagged the audience award.

Scottish filmmakers Will Anderson and Ainslie Henderson bagged the Powell and Pressburger Award in the best film category.

Their debut film, "A Cat Called Dom", was chosen as the best feature film at the Edinburgh International Film Festival (EIFF). The collaboration of Anderson and Henderson in acting and co-directing the indie flick appeared to be a great success, which follows how filmmaker Anderson undergoes the grief of his mother’s cancer.

Along with "A Cat Called Dom", Hassan Nazer's film 'Winners' received the audience award. Moreover, the jury of The Powell and Pressburger gave a special mention to "Mediterranean Fever" by Maha Haj.

While Yu Sun’s film 'Stay' won the Norman McLaren Award for the best British short animation, Karla Crome’s film 'Canvas 5' received the Norman McLaren Award in the category of best British short film.

When asked for a reaction, Anderson and Henderson replied that screening their first feature at EIFF seemed like a great honour for them, and winning the first Powell and Pressburger Award was even more special. Their film, "A Cat Called Dom", is a story about embracing failure in life. After the win, they feel it is more like a success.

Kristy Matheson, the creative director of EIFF conveyed on the occasion of the 75th year of the Edinburgh International Film Festival that the festival started in the shadow of World War II intending to foster connection, friendship, and understanding across nations.

Presently, it is the delight of the EIFF committee to welcome the audience, artists, and industry experts to Edinburgh to celebrate the occasion together and meet great storytellers across the globe.
