Will trains and tubes run as London buses announce strike this week?

The United Kingdom is packed with strikes in the holiday season beginning now and continuing until after Christmas and beyond.

The drivers of bus services in the UK have gone on strike due to the wage hike issue that threatens to dampen the Christmas spirit. Hundreds of drivers belonging to the Unite Union are jamming the brakes and planning to escalate their issue to involve the public. The union members say that no hike has been given for years for reasons like the pandemic and inflation hitting the UK due to the ongoing war.

The government has discussed a 2% standard hike for the erring workers, but they demand more mainly because of inflation. Bus drivers believe that prices have soared to more than 10% while their hike is proposed at 2%, which is downright ridiculous on the part of the government. They hope the government comes to the negotiating table to discuss long-standing issues so services can be normalized. The union members have no intentions to deflate the seasons’ spirit and inconvenience the public in any way. The bus drivers are planning action from today.

Will trains and tubes run amind bus strikes?

Due to the buses going off-roads, the public is advised to take the tube services, which are more or less operational. However, commuters are warned that the tube services around the capital would be a tad busy as the bus commuters are expected to throng the underground. The public is also informed that with strikes prevailing across Network Rail, some Underground and a few Overground lines might not be operational. The trains affected by the strike can be checked from the TfL website.
