Prince Harry and Prince Andrew won't be wearing their military uniforms for the Queen's burial. Instead, Her Majesty's grandson and son will appear in casual funeral attire with the other guests.

This resulted from Buckingham Palace's declaration that only members of the employed royal family would be permitted to wear military uniforms at Monday's state burial. They are forbidden from wearing military uniforms since two of the Queen's close relatives served in the military during a fight.

Withdrawal of Royal Titles by the Queen

The Queen revoked the titles of Duke of Sussex and Captain General of the Royal Marines after he resigned from his position as a working royal in 2020, after serving in the British Army for 10 years. The Duke of York spent 22 years in the Royal Navy. However, he lost his patronage and titles due to his association with Jeffrey Epstein, a perpetrator of child abuse.

The privilege of wearing a uniform was lost when they left. With one exception, all ceremonies done during the mourning period had to adhere to this rule.

A Special Show of Respect
Prince Andrew, 62, was permitted to dress in the Vice Admiral of the Navy uniform for Friday's Vigil of the Princes as a "special show of respect." The day after, Prince Harry and brother William attended the vigil for the grandchildren while dressed in their uniforms at their father's request, King Charles III.

Even though they were dressed in suits for Wednesday's parade to Westminster Hall, their military badges were still proudly worn across their chests. Prince William, the new Prince of Wales and potential successor, is expected to wear a uniform to the funeral.

Prince Harry and Prince William Served Overseas
Prince Harry and Prince William served overseas while in the military, even though they departed from royal life. Harry served two tours in Afghanistan before being promoted to captain in 2011. Andrew served as a helicopter pilot in the Falkland Islands War.

No working royal was permitted to attend Prince Philip's funeral in April 2021 while dressed in a full military uniform, following protocol.
