Who was Marcus Sedgwick? British author passed away at age of 54

Award-winning British writer and illustrator Marcus Sedgwick passed away unexpectedly on Thursday. Sedgwick's agency RCW has confirmed the news. However, the agency added that more information is not being shared at the moment due to Sedgwick’s family's privacy request.

The cause of Sedgwick's sudden death is a widely searched topic on the internet. But, according to his agency, the family wants to keep things private at the moment; therefore, not much information is getting released.

Sedgwick’s works

"Flood land", Sedgwick’s debut novel (published in 2000), got the Branford Boase award. One of his subsequent works, ‘My Sword hand is singing’, was awarded the Book Trust Teenage Prize. In a relatively short writing career, Sedgwick's books were nominated for over 30 awards. Earlier this year, Sedgwick started working on a new series titled, ‘Be the change’, with two books initially. These non-fiction titles deal with mental health issues for children aged nine to twelve.




Marcus was born and raised in Kent though recently, he preferred living in the South of France. As a writer and illustrator, Marcus not only wrote for adults, but his repertoire includes Children's books, non-fiction and educational writing.

Several people expressed their shock at the sudden passing away of Sedgwick. Claire Wilson, who represented Marcus at RCW, wrote, we will all deeply feel his loss. Children will miss his books for them.
