In extra time, instead of firing the ball into the box, the Iran player Milad Mohammadi chose to take a different tactic.

With Iran trailing Spain 1-0 in extra time in their important World Cup match, full-back Milad Mohammadi tried an unconventional throw-in, losing his side a precious 30 seconds in the dying phases of the game.

But who is he, and what has he done?

Mohammadi kissed the ball and took a step back after 90 minutes, three minutes, and thirty seconds of extra time. He then glanced up, pointed his finger towards the heavens, and somersaulted with the ball in his hands. Mohammadi was about to throw the ball in with a sweeping, acrobatic movement when he changed his mind at the 11th hour.

Since he paused his movement and did not release the ball, he was permitted to attempt once more, but this one time he adopted a more traditional approach, throwing the ball back to a teammate. Spain won 1-0 after wasting 30 seconds of extra time on that throw-in.
