The controversy surrounding the Balenciaga photo shoot has recently drawn attention to the artistic brothers Jake and Dinos Chapman as detractors of the high-end fashion label comb over information about previous campaigns and collaborations.

After deleting the photographs from its website that featured young children holding the brand's teddy bear purses in controversial clothing, Balenciaga received criticism. The plush animals appeared to be wearing bondage attire, such as fishnet blouses and studded leather collars and harnesses.

Several well-known people came out against the portrayal. Kim Kardashian, a brand ambassador for Balenciaga, reportedly said she was "reevaluating" her association with the company because of the photographs and was disgusted and shaken by them. The photographs, which some on social media had referred to as "child porn," have since been removed after Balenciaga apologised for the campaign.

Social media users recently shared pictures of the Chapman brothers' artwork on the website of auction house Christie's depicting children with genitalia in lieu of their noses and lips, among other traits, in their scrutiny of Balenciaga and organisations connected to the troubled company.

The visual artists gained notoriety for their purposefully provocative work and were shortlisted in 2003 for the coveted Turner Prize. Jake Chapman revealed to The Guardian in May that he and his older brother have parted ways creatively after decades of success as a team. There was nothing friendly about their practice, he claimed. He said that it was never a love-in. It was always flavoured with an underlying sense of boiling contempt for one another, and he supposes, at some point, that it reached a breaking point, and they made the decision to part ways.

Images of naked children, some of whom are conjoined, are among the works of art by the brothers that are displayed on Christie's website and have recently been debated on social media. There are pictures of dismembered heads as well.

For more than 20 years, the brothers' art has been sold through Christie's, with values ranging from a few hundred dollars to over $500,000.
