  • New tax rates in England and Northern Ireland range from 20% to 50% of annual revenue between £12,571 and £50,270.
  • The higher income tax rate of 45% has been repealed for citizens of England, Wales, and Northern Ireland.
Changed:
Kwasi Kwarteng rescinded the more significant rate rise before he was sacked. He claimed that eliminating the 45% rate would not happen since it had become a "major distraction" for the rest of the mini-budget.

  • Payments restrictions for universal credit have been increased, reducing benefits for people who don't meet their commitments to seek jobs.
  • An extra 120,000 Universal Credit claimants will be compelled to seek more jobs or risk having their benefits stopped.
