Under the "Warm Home Discount" scheme, households are starting to get a discount on their energy bill. The rebate jumped to £150 this winter and will be deducted automatically from bills after being stuck at £140 for some years. The discount is available to some elderly and low-income recipients of certain benefits.

But around 500,000 households are still missing out. These people include some specially abled individuals and people who live in smaller homes. They were earlier qualified for aid.

The government has declared it is giving priority to those homes during the winter that need help the most.

In order to assist people, who might find it difficult to pay their heating bills during the winter, the Warm Home Discount scheme has been in existence for some time in England, Wales and Scotland. The benefit was offered through energy companies, who seem to have provided it on a first-come, first-served basis.

Many residents in Kemmerer, where the population of 2,700 is little-changed since the 1990s, see the TerraPower project as a much-needed economic boost because Rocky Mountain Power's Naughton power plant will close 2025.
