Everyone willing to volunteer at NSPCC is provided extensive training and hands-on support whenever required. Training could typically take up to five weeks, while the NSPCC asks people to volunteer for a minimum of four hours a week.

Volunteering at the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC) and Childline in the UK could be an option this new year as they have several positions open currently.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, NSPCC has a dearth of Childline volunteers and hence they are looking to fill various spots this year.

What qualities does NSPCC require in their Childline volunteers?

Their roles cater to a plethora of people, however, they ask for a few specific skills and experience that include being able to think and make quick decisions, commendable communication skills, team player, and possessing a passion to help young people and children. NSPCC provides extensive training for all their roles/ For Childline volunteers, training sessions last for 11 weeks before they finally get started. Supervisors are always available to support volunteers during and after their shifts. They also provide one-to-one support and supervise groups daily.


NSPCC wishes to reach more schoolchildren in 2023 and hence one can also sign up to volunteer at their Speak Out, Stay Safe workshops.

Volunteers at primary schools help by creating awareness about child abuse and also provide students and children the confidence to speak out if they need help. Similar training is provided to school volunteers and it includes practice sessions, home study, and hands-on experience by visiting schools to understand the gist of workshop materials and how they are conducted.

One can also become a fundraising volunteer at NSPCC. When volunteers help raise funds in their local communities, these are used for the betterment of children and to protect them from abuse. NSPCC offers help to fundraising volunteers with support from their managers.
