Veteran broadcaster Esther Rantzen reveals her lung cancer progressed to stage 4

Veteran broadcaster Esther Rantzen has revealed that her lung cancer has progressed to stage 4. Earlier, she announced her cancer diagnosis in January. The 82-year-old is one of the pioneering female broadcasters who emerged to fame with her long stint at BBC. Rantzen is best known for her presentation of ‘That’s Life!’ from 1973 to 1994.

While speaking to Mirror, Rantzen also revealed that she is on “one of the new medications” and that nobody knows if the doses are working or not. However, she said that she will soon have a scan which will disclose the outcome. In the same interview, the 82-year-old stated that she is “not good at regrets”. She said that she treasures the “fantastic friendships” that she has made in the last five decades.

Earlier this year in January, Rantzen revealed her lung cancer diagnosis and said in a statement that she has decided to not keep her medical condition a secret anymore because she found it “difficult to skulk around various hospitals wearing an “unconvincing disguise” and because she wanted the world to know about the facts from her.


At the time, Rantzen had also said that the lung cancer diagnosis helped her to look back on the years he had lived and expressed “profound thanks” to everyone who made her life joyful.

Apart from being a successful journalist and broadcaster, Rantzen founded the charity, ChildLine in 1986, which offers counseling and support for children and young people in the UK till the age of 19. In 2013, she also set up a charity to support elderly people, named Silver Line.
