Twenty-eight people have lost their lives in New York state, USA, due to the extreme cold and winter storm across the country. The temperature in the country has plummeted to -45 degree celsius. Emergency services in New York state are struggling to rescue the residents. The storm, called the ‘blizzard of the century’ by the authorities, has killed 67 people nationwide.
Buffalo County’s conditions are worse as the New York emergency services reports that people have been trapped inside their cars for more than two days. Bodies are found inside the cars and under the snow banks. Emergency workers are conducting car-to-car searches to rescue alive or dead people.
The meteorologists have warned of the civilians as it is expected to snow up to 9 inches on Tuesday. There are already several feet of snow in the state. This was the worst cold and storm that the New York state had faced since the Buffalo Blizzard of 1977 when 30 people lost their lives.
Joe Biden, the president of the US, has issued an emergency declaration allowing federal support for New York State. President Biden offered condolences to the people who lost their lives in this cold. He said in a Tweet that his heart is with those who lost their loved ones this holiday weekend.
