Announcing the ULEZ Scrappage Scheme, London Mayor Sadiq Khan said that all residents of the capital city will come under the scheme and there will be more support for charities, disabled drivers and businesses.

Under the ULEZ Scrappage Scheme, a London resident can claim GBP 6,000 for retrofitting his car, a minibus owner can claim GBP 9,000, small businesses can get up to GBP 7,000 and a disabled driver can claim GBP 10,000. Similarly, all the residents of London can claim GBP GBP 7,000 for retrofitting vans.

Sadiq Khan has come under attack for the ULEZ Scrappage Scheme. Calling the scheme ‘too late and too little’, Conservative mayoral candidate Susan Hall said that the mayor is under pressure from the people of London and his own party members. The scheme will be on a first come first serve basis.

ULEZ Scrappage Scheme: Reactions


Reacting sharply to the London scheme, the county councils of Kent, Essex, and Surrey said that they will ban the ULEZ signages in their respective areas.

Voicing concerns about the ULEZ scheme, Kent County Council said that those people of Kent, who regularly visit London will not be able to get the benefits under the scheme. The council also said that by not extending the scheme to the residents, businesses, and charities of Kent, Sadiq Khan has put an additional burden on them during a cost-of-living crisis.

ULEZ Scrappage Scheme: Fund Goes Up


The London mayor has decided to take GBP 50 million from the reserve of the City Hall. With this, the ULEZ Scrappage Fund will be increased from GBP 110 million to GBP 160 million.
