After a few days of slowing down for Christmas, public transportation usually resumes its normal schedule on December 27. However, this December 27 has coincided with the fourth consecutive day of rail and bus strikes.
Workers from Network Rail who are members of the National Union of Rail, Maritime and Transport Workers (RMT) went on strike at 6 p.m. on Christmas Eve. Fortunately, the strike ended at 6 a.m. this morning, so the schedule should return to normal for the rest of the day.
However, because industrial action frequently has long-term consequences, you should still double-check your travel plans.
The rail strikes in December were expected to be called off after Rail Delivery Group (RDG) met with RMT (National Union of Rail, Maritime and Transport Workers).
RMT boss Mick Lynch announced on December 4 that he had rejected the RDG's offer of a 4 per cent pay increase.
