With the inflation rate reaching a 40-year-high of 11.1 per cent in the country, workers in the United Kingdom have been calling for better pay, pensions, and service conditions for a long time. Hundreds of thousands of workers across industries are set to strike in the coming weeks, forcing the UK to face mass disruption. Rail staff, civil servants, nurses, postal workers, and bus drivers are planning to strike in the weeks before Christmas, which may continue in 2023. Strikes from rail staff have been hurting the railways' operations since the summer. The trade unions for rail staff have demanded train companies provide better pay and working conditions.
While rail staff is already on strike, they have announced a few more new dates over the Christmas period. Responding to the call of the RMT, over 40,000 rail workers at 14 major operators will strike on December 13, 14, 16, and 17. Besides, they will also walk out on January 3, 4, 6, and 7 in 2023.
