The end of 2022 was characterized by widespread industrial unrest as personnel from the transportation network, the NHS, Royal Mail, schools, and the civil service went on strike. Now beginning 2023, rail employees, bus drivers, teachers in Scotland, nurses, ambulance personnel, and public servants will all be on strike.

Worker’s Unions have warned of an increase in their activity. Prime Minister Rishi Sunak's administration is preparing for strike votes for teachers and firemen in England and Wales to conclude in January, while junior physicians will also be balloted in January.

The Trades Union Congress' new general secretary, Paul Nowak, has warned of a "rolling wave" of strikes next year unless politicians concede on wages, with unions conducting coordinated action so that stoppages occur on the same day or in fast succession.


Tuesday, January 3

Members of the RMT who work for National Rail have resumed strike action.
National Highway Traffic Officers will go on strike across the country.
